Liverpool might listen to offers for Thiago Alcantara in the January transfer window if talks over a new contract fail to progress, according to a report.
Although Thiago’s contract with Liverpool is about to expire, Football Insider recently reported that the team was in early discussions about extending his stay. The same source is now speculating that the Reds might actually sell the midfielder.
According to the most recent source, Liverpool is ‘ready’ to trade Thiago in January if they receive a ‘large’ offer, but it is unclear what they would ask for the player. Although it is still unclear where Thiago would move in the winter, clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia expressed interest in him over the summer.
Liverpool wants to wait and see how the Spaniard’s injury issue plays out before making a final contract offer. Any skepticism on that front could increase the likelihood that he will leave.
As things stand, Thiago’s options appear to be limitless. At 32 years old, he is the most seasoned midfielder Liverpool has lost, having remained in the position despite the club’s summer exodus.

Thiago joined Liverpool in 2020 after being acquired by them from Bayern Munich as the current European champion. Since then, he has appeared 97 times for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
He did not, however, play in more than half of their Premier League games last year, and throughout his time playing in England, he has rarely been able to string together a string of victories. He was sidelined at the beginning of this season as well due to injury.
The following midfielder to depart Liverpool might be Thiago.
Liverpool wouldn’t object to keeping Thiago because he is still a very gifted midfield option on his best days, but worries over his physical dependability would cause them to closely consider any offer that comes in during the January transfer window.
At the end of the season, Thiago will become a free agent if Liverpool is unable to sell him or convince him to sign a new contract. The club has already lost players like Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this year. His likely exit would follow theirs.
Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and other new additions to Liverpool’s squad put Thiago up against them for a spot in the midfield.
