Honours even in the North London derby after Arsenal throw away two leads
Spurs 2-2 Arsenal
In this frantic and hectic North London derby on Sunday afternoon, Arsenal finally lost because they were unable to maintain two important leads that they had worked so hard to win.
In the 26th minute, Bukayo Saka’s effort was deflected by Cristian Romero past Lilywhites goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes before halftime, Ange Postecoglu’s visitors tied the score through Son Heung-min, giving the home team the lead.
At halftime, manager Mikel Arteta switched the injured record signing Declan Rice for Jorginho and Kai Havertz for Fabio Vieira in an effort to give Arsenal the lead back.
They succeeded in doing so in the 54th minute, when Saka successfully beat Vicario from the penalty spot after Ben White’s close-range shot had touched Romero’s outstretched arm.
The crowd was still jubilant until Jorginho handed the ball over to James Maddison, who then played in Son for a one-time goal past David Raya to make the score 2-2.
Despite dominating the last minutes, Arsenal was unable to penetrate the Spurs defense, and the teams split the points to put an end to another exciting game in the illustrious series.
