Karlan Grant was loaned from West Brom to Cardiff City during the summer transfer window.
The high-priced striker from West Brom temporarily joined Cardiff City in the summer and scored his first goal for the team in a 3-2 midweek victory against Coventry City.
The Bluebirds are currently having success in the Championship. West Brom is in 15th place in the Championship after their past four league games, but they have won three of their last four.
Grant had a challenging campaign at The Hawthorns last year, contributing just three goals in 31 Championship games for Carlos Corberan’s team.
Do Cardiff City have an option to buy?
There’s nothing online that suggests Cardiff City have either an option or an obligation to buy Grant from West Brom at any point.
Birmingham Live reported earlier in the summer that the Baggies were open to offers for Grant but that it was unclear whether or not Cardiff would have an option to buy the 25-year-old.
It’s also been reported that Grant is a high-earner at West Brom, and that Cardiff are now paying the bulk of his wages.
Cardiff then don’t appear to have an option to buy Grant. West Brom paid £15million for the striker back in 2020 and whilst he’s received mixed reviews since, the Baggies will surely be keen on recouping the bulk of what they paid for Grant.
West Brom endured a difficult summer in the transfer window with resources tight. Dara O’Shea ended up being the only player sale, but the likes of Grady Diangana and Nathaniel Chalobah were two names who were seemingly up for sale.
Cardiff City face off against Sunderland in the Championship on Sunday, whilst West Brom host Millwall tomorrow.
After Plymouth Argyle’s ’embarrassing’ 4-1 loss to Bristol City, Steven Schumacher apologizes.
Steven Schumacher, the manager of Plymouth Argyle, has apologized to the team’s supporters for the ’embarrassing’ 4-1 loss to Bristol City.
Infuriatingly losing for the fourth time in five games on Tuesday night was Plymouth Argyle. At Ashton Gate, the Pilgrims were defeated 4-1 by Bristol City, leaving a packed away end incensed.
Within just eight minutes, goals from Sam Bell and Matty James had the Robins up 2-0. On the 26th minute, Adam Randell scored to cut the host’s lead to one goal, but Mark Sykes quickly restored a two-goal advantage. In the last minutes, a goal by Harry Cornick gave Bristol City the victory.
When speaking to the club’s media team after the game, Schumacher clarified that the seven lineup changes were not the cause of the lopsided loss, which prompted questions about the selection before the game.
He then apologized for the disappointment, saying:
“I apologize. Despite the poor performance, the supporting cast was once again excellent. I have no idea what transpired. It was awkward as they yelled “it’s embarrassing.”
“I had the same thought you did. In actuality, I did make the identical statement at the half.
Later, Schumacher added the following about the side changes:
Seven changes may seem excessive, yet four of them include [regular] starters. Joe Edwards, Adam Randall, Callum Wright, and Dan Scarr have all participated in almost every game while they have been here.
The drop off shouldn’t be there. If the three young men have a bad night in their first Championship game, I’ll take it from them, but if the other men have played consistently, then no, that’s not good enough.
“The fact that we made seven modifications is hardly an excuse. The players there ought to be capable of performing, but they weren’t.
Next up for Plymouth Argyle
The Pilgrims will be determined to bounce back in their next outing, but they may well be up against it once again.
Norwich City are next up for Schumacher’s side, so they face an uphill battle in their bid to get back on track. The tie is at Home Park though, so they’ll be hopeful of maintaining their strong record there in front of the loyal and vocal supporters.
It’s been a tough run for Plymouth over the past five games but the 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers is an example of just what they’re capable of at this level. There’s no doubt that they need to improve vastly on Tuesday night’s display though, as a team like Norwich could present some real threats.
The Canaries sit 4th in the Championship table with 13 points from six games. They face a tough game against Leicester City on Wednesday night.
