Dominik Mysterio was supposed to face Mustafa Ali at the “WWE NXT” No Mercy event the next weekend. Unfortunately, Ali’s announcement last Thursday that he was leaving the WWE was the first of more than 20 roster cuts that occurred over the following few days. Mysterio gave his thoughts on his opponent’s release when speaking on “In the Kliq” (h/t Wrestlingnews.co). He has not yet determined who he would face in place of his opponent.
He said, “Yeah, it’s a very unfortunate situation that very talented people have to go through situations like this,” adding, “At the end of the day, it’s out of our control.”
Mysterio claimed that he was simply trying to make the greatest possible impression under the circumstance. In terms of the upcoming North American Title defense, he will simply have to “wait and see” who his opponent will be. In July, he defeated Wes Lee to win the championship, then at The Great American Bash, he successfully defended it against Lee and Mustafa Ali. After victories over Dragon Lee and Axiom, Ali was scheduled to face off against the champion, but his untimely departure has called into question the entire contest. He was earning main roster money even though he wasn’t on the main roster, according to the rumored cause for his departure.
Dominik Mysterio will face Dragon Lee in the upcoming episode of “WWE Raw” on Monday, who might easily replace Dragon Lee as his No Mercy opponent. In August, Lee made an unsuccessful bid to win the title.
