Tan Kesler, vice-chairman of Hull City, has cast doubt on the Tigers’ future ability to re-sign Keane Lewis-Potter from Brentford.
The winger was transferred from Hull City to the Premier League club last year, but so far he hasn’t been able to establish a regular spot with the Bees because of injury issues and competition in his position.
Last January, HullLive reported that Lewis-Potter, 22, had been connected with a loan return to his old team. However, the reunion never happened.
According to Kesler, who has claimed that he is content with the club’s current alternatives in that area, “I think he’s doing amazing in the Brentford environment and I’ve spoken with the Brentford guys, they’re brilliant, they’re very happy with him.” Some teams follow a set of rules while developing their players. He has some wounds, and it takes time.
“Do we want to see him right now? If Brentford wants to loan him out at any point, I’m sure they will let us know and we will be informed. We have a lot of depth in the wing positions, so our supporters should concentrate on what we already have and rally behind Jaden (Philogene), Jason (Lokilo), and the other guys.
Lewis-Potter, a graduate of Hull City academy, progressed through the academy ranks in Hull and played often for his hometown team at several young levels. When he was younger, he played on loan for Bradford Park Avenue in the non-league.
The attacker later made his first team debut at the MKM Stadium, when he assisted the team’s 2021 promotion from League One while playing for previous manager Grant McCann. For the Tigers, he appeared in 122 games in all competitions and scored 30 goals.
Due to that result, Brentford swooped in to sign him, and in July of last year, he was granted the all-clear to depart. In order to entice Thomas Frank to London, his team paid £16.4 million (Transfermarkt), and he signed a long-term six-year contract.
But so far in the top division, Lewis-Potter hasn’t been able to create the influence he had hoped for. He has 17 games under his belt with the Bees but just one goal.
It would be eye-catching to have him return to Hull, but Kesler has reiterated that they are content with the options they now have in his position, such Jaden Philogene and Jason Lokilo, as well as Scott Twine, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, and Harry Vaughan, who can also play there.
