In their debut Premier League Cup match on Tuesday night, Charlton’s U21s were defeated 4-0 by Bournemouth.
The visitors triumphed at Princes Park thanks to braces from Balraj Landa and Daniel Adu-Adjei.
Adu-Adjei, who stole the ball and found himself in a one-on-one situation with Henry Molyneux, gave the Cherries the early advantage. When the goalkeeper sprinted off his line to close him down, the striker used superb technique to loft the ball over the goalie and give his team the lead after eight minutes.
Nine minutes later, Harvey Kedwell launched a long-range shot for the young Addicks, but the opposition goalie stopped his thundering effort. Shortly afterwards, Henry Rylah’s close-range shot went wide.
Midway through the first half, Bournemouth scored their second goal of the game. Landa converted from the spot after a well-executed move by the Cherries.
Just a few seconds after, Charlton effectively countered after making a good response. Tolu Ladapo received a well-placed cross from Rylah at the back post, where he easily controlled the ball and fired from close range. However, Cameron Plain made an outstanding save to keep the winger at bay.
After the break, Bournemouth scored their third goal, giving Landa a hat trick. On minute 56, the forward received the pass from the center and maneuvered around Molyneux to find an empty net.
After six minutes had passed, the Cherries added their fourth. Finn Tonks managed to keep the ball alive after Dominic Sadi received it outside the left side of the box and attempted a curling shot that was brilliantly saved by Molyneux. The away team won thanks to a goal from Adu-Adjei, who was set up by the full-back and scored from the edge of the penalty area.
On Tuesday, September 26th, in Professional Development League Two – South action, Chris Lock’s team will once again take on Bournemouth.
Molyneux, Watson (Casey 65), Elerewe (c), Gough (22′), Laqeretabua (Hand 73), and Bower (Roddy 65′); Kedwell, Chin, and Adigun; Rylah, Kanu, and Ladapo for Charlton.
