Chris Martin, a former Bristol City striker, is now working out with Bristol Rovers, according to Bristol Live, as the Gas consider whether or not to offer the 34-year-old free agent a contract given the restricted choices for Joey Barton up front.
After missing out on a chance to bring Jonson Clarke-Harris back to the club from Peterborough United on deadline day, Rovers are very interested in signing a free agent striker. The required paperwork was turned in too late, and the team almost missed out on a club-record contract for the two-time League One Golden Boot winner.
Given that Clarke-Harris’ contract at London Road expires in the summer of 2019, it is still unknown whether the club would pursue him in January. The 29-year-old scored his first goal since the transfer market closed on Tuesday night, as the Posh defeated Cheltenham Town 3-0. Ryan Loft was also permitted to leave Rovers for Port Vale with the understanding that a Clarke-Harris trade would be finalized.
