For QPR, this summer was a trying one, and it appears that next summer will also present difficulties for Gareth Ainsworth’s team.
This summer, QPR had a lot of work to do in the transfer market.
This summer’s transfer market was quite busy for QPR.
The R’s are still lacking in bodies but are still competing well in the Championship, currently occupying the 17th spot after the first five games.
A number of important players’ contracts will expire next summer; in this article, we look at three player contracts QPR has to be aware of before 2024.
Casey Field
The popular midfielder, who had a standout 2023–24 season in the Championship, won all of the club awards the previous year.
He was courted throughout the summer, but he’s still at QPR. Despite the fact that Field’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, the club will undoubtedly be concerned about what the next year or so will bring for the player.
Field’s may be the most alarming of all the players whose contracts expire the next year.
Back center Jimmy Dunne At the end of the current campaign, Jimmy Dunne’s contract expires as well.
After sustaining a shoulder injury in preseason, he has yet to play this year, although his eventual return to the lineup will be appreciated.
Since coming to QPR from Burnley in 2021, Dunne has been a respectable player, but his contract will be another source of concern for the team, which already lacks center backs.
Scott Willock
Last but not least, Chris Willock’s contract expires in the summer due to the early year activation of a one-year option.
He is a player with undeniable talent, but in the Championship, he has frequently been inconsistent due to injury and a lack of match fitness.
Willock might be a player the club tries to sell in January, however it’s unclear how much they could ask for the player. QPR might be forced to accept a lowball offer for the former Arsenal star.
