Charlton Athletic’s caretaker boss Jason Pearce was pleased to see Miles Leaburn return from injury last night.
Charlton Athletic were beaten 4-3 away by League Two side Crawley Town in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Leaburn, 19, was able to get on the scoresheet along with George Dobson and Tyreece Campbell. He has been out of action over recent weeks with an ankle injury but was able to get some valuable minutes under his belt which is a boost for his club.
Pearce told the official club website: “It’s brilliant to see Miles back. It was important that he came through some decent minutes and obviously scoring a goal was a bonus.
“Young Josh Laqeretabua coming on and getting his debut is fantastic for him, and seeing some of the other players who have just come in get some minutes and seeing how we want to play is pleasing.
“So there’s a few positives but ultimately we want to win the game so we’re disappointed. We’ve got to be better.”
Boost for Charlton
Having Leaburn back is a big boost for Charlton as they look to hit some form in League One. The Addicks have endured a tough start to the new season and are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Dean Holden after deciding to part company with the former Bristol City man.
They beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 at The Valley in their last league outing so will head into their game away at Stevenage after the international break in confident mood.
Leaburn joined the London outfit back in 2019 having previously been on the books of Chelsea’s academy. He broke into the first-team in the last campaign and went on to make 40 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 13 goals which isn’t a bad return for a teenager at all.
He will be hoping for more of the same this term and is a player who has bags of potential. The Addicks will no doubt face a battle to keep hold of him down the line but for now the prospect will be eager to impress once again after returning against Crawley.
